What does the Obama Victory mean for entertainment?

As Barack Obama took the win over John McCain Tuesday night, I began to think about all the possibilities that opened up. Of course I thought first about the working man, education, and the free world policies that exist. However when the dust settled I wanted to know what does this mean for people of color in the entertainment industry, mainly in Movies and Television?

I know we have seen African American presidents, CEO's, and other position of power and prestige. But the question is more about the quality and quantity of the films that would showcase this image freely.

Now that America has chosen Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, and Forest Whitaker to name a few, as the men to represent a people and a the dollars at the box office.

My question is will the big wigs begin to bring our stories to the screen without bias. No longer segregating the stories and adding momentum to the amount of productions that we see in a given year.

  1. So what does this win mean for African Americans? I have thought long and hard about this one. Here is a list of things that may be applicable to the new state of American Affairs.
  2. Possible we may see better quality of movies produce with African Americans in respectable roles with out stereotypical characters that are old and outdated.
  3. The Wayans Brothers can continue to do what they do without African American feeling threatened by the images the portray.
  4. Morgan Freeman will get a chance to take a vacation and allow someone else to do the more serious roles. ( That is if the man has the ability to take a break.)
  5. The CW will have to find better writers. However Mara Brock Akil will step up her game with this new found pride and possible produce another hit show, that will for sure cross over.
  6. More African American Shows that can bring back the Cosby Vision.
  7. Bill Cosby may even put in one last film or TV effort, coming out of retirement with this new found pride.
  8. Spike Lee will have stronger stories and his cousin Malcolm D. Lee will stop making crap- tastic films.
  9. Rappers will have to upgrade their music to fit the times.
  10. R&B may make a come back, fused with rock and Hip Hop.( I know that it never left, but come on it is not supported due to lack of something.)
  11. A fusion of stories, music, and art will be that much more visible to the world.
  12. Gossip Bloggers may actually talk bad about everyone because everyone is hot on the global scale.
The rest is to be told.......! This is all speculation. But wouldn't you want to see this happen. Let me know or add to the list what is possible.
