Movie to reconsider ::: Jason's Lyric

Not too many movies found way to the silver screen in the 90's that were influenced by the African American life, that contained a full bodied story line. One such movie made its way to the screen, and minus it flaws made for a good viewing of a film that is worth owning for multiple views. That movie goes by the name of Jasons Lyric. A poignant story of triumph of tragedy or in the case tragedies, one after the other. Admits all of its darkness love was flourishing and growing into something that is worth the long haul.

This film teach the weak hearted and the strong alike that there is a way around the tough obstacles if it is sort after. If the soul within is far more driven that the mind that doubts and in the pit of pain you can find beauty.

Not to many movies allow you this offering that is tailored from the cloth of the African American Community and the stories that it posses. Jason's Lyric served it up raw and beautiful. Doug McHenry offered up a feat of the willful, as well as a sexually menacing entree of goods from start to finish. Making 1994 a good year for the African American film maker. Which I think opened the door to full bodied films such as the one we have been seeing as of late.

I recomend this film to everyone and for everyone. It goes beyond the Black Experience, trancending race and bring together what all films should and that is a piece of humanity that we all share. That piece goes by the title of living and loving it.

The films stars Jada Pinkett-Smith, Allen Payne, Eddie Griffin, Anthony 'Treach' Criss, Lisa Nicole Carson, and Oscar Winner Forest Whitaker. I am sure you will be pleased to take a look at this film.

Here are so clips of the film to get you started ::

Hollywood raises serious money for Mr. Obama

As of late I have been seeing more and more support coming out of Hollywood for Barack Obama, and this does not suprise me. I am pleased to see this take place none the less.

As reported:

Barack Obama partied with Hollywood celebrities Tuesday
night and with the help of Oscar-winning singer and actress Barbra
Streisand raised an eye-popping $9 million for his presidential
campaign and the Democratic Party.Obama spent more than an hour before
dinner getting his picture taken with guests. He said later that people
had encouraged him to be tougher and had questioned why he was so calm
in a close race against Republican John McCain.

“I’m skinny but I’m tough,” he said. “I’m from Chicago and we don’t
play. Just keep steady. If we can cut through the nonsense and the
lipstick and the pigs and the silliness, then I’m absolutely convinced
that we are going to win,” Obama said, referring to some of the offbeat
charges raised against him. “The reason I’m calm … is I’ve got
confidence in the American people,” he said. “I really think they want
to see us do better.” Standing in the courtyard of the palatial estate,
he said his campaign was dedicated to people who need jobs and health
care and worry about their pensions and sending children to college.
“It’s about those who will never see the inside of a building like
this,” Obama said. He said the economic turmoil in recent days had been
sobering for America. “It’s reminded people that this is not a game.
This is not a reality show, no offense to any of you,” Obama said to
laughter. “This is not a sitcom.”

New Ventures and more money :::: Jay-Z merging the Roc Name?

There is a buzz as stated on Bossip. Jay-Z is said to be headed in the direction of new ventures, that will merge two continents and sounds.

Read up:

Jay-Z has reportedly launched a new label, adding to his long list of
businesses. This one is called StarRoc and was formed with producers
Stargate. According to overseas media, Stargate is a Norwegian duo
consisting of Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen, both of which
have produced for several superstar artists, specifically crafting
Beyonce’s hit “Irreplaceable” and Ne-Yo’s “So Sick.” Reports indicate
that the producer duo have relocated their studio to Jay-Z’s
Manhattan-based Roc The Mic studios.

That is the ching in every cash register and the green in all haters eyes. So Jigga wave to them like Maino would.

Money spotlight :::: The riches of a 69 year old parking lot attendant

I came across this story on an older gentleman who, most when passing him by would assume there is nothing to him and that they can not learn a thing from him. With that frame of mind you may be missing out on a good amount of advice on how to maximize your earnings. Make your wallet fat and your bank account huge. This is not only a lesson on the age old saying, never judge a book by its cover, but also a lesson in actually taking the time out to read it.

I would like to talk more about this, but I think that it speaks for it self so here is what he had to say when he was asked about how he amasses his wealth off of a 20K a year salary as a parking lot attendant.

From MSN.com

How did you get started investing?

Soon after I
started working for Mercantile Bank in Baltimore 44 years ago, one of
the bankers took me aside and told me I didn't have enough education to
go very far at the bank. He suggested I invest in stocks.

Where did you get the money?

I did it with good
old-fashioned nickels and dimes. My mother taught me how to budget,
which made me appreciate how a little money can grow. I saved what I
could from odd jobs, such as lawn cutting and window washing, that I
did in addition to my day job. I used that money to buy one share of IBM (IBM, news, msgs) stock back in 1981.

How did you learn how to invest?

I
really didn't know enough to be scared. In school I was considered a
slow learner -- dyslexic, it's called now. My true gift from God is my
ability to listen, and that's how I'm able to ask questions and use
tips from the brokers, financial planners and bank customers I see
every day.

Do you have a formula for picking stocks?

When
I first started out, I had to be conservative and take my time because
I couldn't afford to lose money. Now I look for companies with
stability that pay dividends. I read the stock pages but don't claim to
know everything about them. I have a broker, but many times I'll go
where my spirit leads me.

Any stocks you're excited about now?

I've been buying shares of ExxonMobil (XOM, news, msgs).

We've heard that you're helping others invest.

I
started an investment club at my church. And I've been coaching a
couple of young men, such as bar-and-grill cook Antawn Davenport and
Dana Mouse Smith, who toured with the late rapper Tupac Shakur. They
can help spread the message that people can do whatever they set their
minds to do.

This was published back in 2007. However I understand that the market it rough, and things may be tough in your wallet. However take into account this one principle that he left us with the little change adds up. So go out there and take that extra job one weekend a month, and use that money for something that can grow, not something that will shine.

"When you say Teenage girls, how old are we talking?" That statement is priceless.

Homage Blaxploitation with a bad taste in my mouth ::: Friday Foster

Make no mistake about it. Pam Grier is the reigning queen of 70's and no one tops her. She holds down the crown and many would like to have their hands on it. They may feign interest or pretend her taking off her top here and there is reason to doubt her acting. However that may be in their minds, they can not deny the beauty and the grace that she brought to her roles. With a tenacious hunger she worked hard to bring to us, an attractive, bombshell with sex appeal and a way with crappy lines.

Another addition to her collection of films is Friday Foster and it is a classic that has been overshadowed by her more popular film Foxy Brown. Friday Foster has a better supporting cast and it shows the slow evolution of the genres death into films with a little more plot and less jive.

IMDB synopsis :

Friday
Foster, an ex-model magazine photographer, goes to Los Angeles
International airport to photograph the arrival of Blake Tarr, the
richest black man in America. Three men attempt to assassinate Tarr.
Foster photographs the melee and is plunged into a web of conspiracy
involving the murder of her childhood friend, a US senator, and a
shadowy plan called "Black Widow".

Take a look for yourself and be your own judge I have to go put my bid in to get these on Blueray.
