Movie to reconsider ::: The Tattooist

You know those Saturday nights when you just don't feel like doing anything that will leave you tired or too drunk to get home, so you decide to make it movie night?! If you don't then you have a life and obviously I need to get out more. However if you are with me on this, then you are human, and think there is more to life than getting shit faced with the hopes of meeting your next fling or new wife.

Saturday night was a special one for me. There was this movie that I'de pass over every time I am in Blockbuster but for some reason this time around I decided to snatch it off the shelf. Although I was not too enthusiastic about my choice, it was one of the few films left in the store that I had not already seen.

It is about 8:10 PM Saturday night and I am watching this movie begin. First thing that catches my eye is the cinematography, it was definitely eye catching. One of the reason I pass over a film is that I presume it to lack decent camera angles and the actors look like lames attempting an acting career. Oh! how wrong I was for one long year. This movie came out some time ago and I picked it up when it hit the shelves and after 30 seconds deemed is useless.

This movie is not only cinematic it has a great story line that you can follow along with and get caught up into without feeling cheated out of your money. Also a plus it is one of those rear films that allows you into another culture without seeming preachy about it. It does not take you to be into Tattoos to like this film as it progress along it becomes more of a Horror bases Mystery that causes you to flinch, wince, and turn you head every time your spine tingles.

I suggest on a Saturday night that you check this film out. Ladies if you want to see if you man is a punk, have him watch this and see how much he twitches. If he keeps his eyes on it, he is a man. Fellas if you want to scare the shoes off your ladies, then you already know what it is. Go check this out.

Much is going on in our country at this time. First we must remember that this country has come a long way from its past. Although we call all agree that it has a long way to go. We must sit down and realize what this country has accomplished so far. I would like to open our hearts to new possibilities. We must grow and not remain in anger, although you have every right to be pissed, every reason to smash up the city that you love and hate just the same. However you have to realize that when the fires burn out you will be living in that litter box. So keep in mind that we must find a more mental approach to police brutality.

I will not preach but trust me I did on Bump Forward and you will find information on how to get some headway into making sure that this (Oscar Grant Killing) does not repeat itself.

'Body of Lies' filled with truth

When you go to the movies you are supposed to be entertained and you should walk away feeling that you have learned something or that you are well entertained. As I am walking out the movies with my girl she leans over to whisper that the movie was not as good as she had hoped. Then I leaned in to say why are you whispering, as I said it with a smile I quickly changed back to what was concerning her with an answer. The dialogue that captured my attention in the film was the last scene which tied it all together. Now it is out of the norm for me to give you the end of a film, but it is one of those rare films in which you are able to get what you are looking for and it does not miss a beat.

So what is that line you ask? The last conversation between Ed Hoffman and Roger Ferris, to me tied together not only the movie but our western view of the Middle East.

Ed Hoffman: Ain't nobody likes the Middle East, buddy. There's nothing here to like.

Rogers response not only opened your thoughts that way of thinking but it also calls the world on its bull shit.

Roger Ferris: That is the problem right there!!!!


That exchange in dialogue not only tied the movie together but it answered my girlfriends statement which followed her question. Did the movie have a plot? I answered of course it it was a very intricate one. Although she asked the question because she felt that the movie did not have a point and it led nowhere. I think she was looking for the big bad ending and did not open her mind up to the fact that a movie like that has no end, but it has  a bridge to life. It is art in its rawest form and I applaud Ridley Scott for doing what needs to be done.


Now I would say head out and check the film out to get a sense of what I am talking about. Before you go just make sure you take someone that catches on quickly or you would be stuck answering the obvious, as I had to (sorry babe but sometime I think you head is in the sand.)

2009 3 albums and Prince thinks it is Sades fault.

The smooth wonder himself will be putting out three independent albums and what gets me is that he thinks that it is Sades fault.

I agree with the dude. When will Sade drop an new album? What is she waiting on and what should we expect upon her return to the studio?

Until then it seems that you can find the leaked tracks from his upcoming work. However I don't run that type of show so you will just have to find them yourself.

So expect to see his new work in the virtual stores and on the shelves of those retailers that are in full support of his movement.

Ann Coulter Neo N*%i poster child lacks reasonable opinions!

Most are going to hate that I said this but who the Flipping cares. I think some people with a pen should be strung up and hung. This out of place, I need something to write about, blond used up bombshell, has nothing else to talk about. I think that she sold her soul long time ago and now has to fulfill the devils demands.

So now that that is off my chest here is what The Daily News had to say about her recent jab at the new first lady,Michelle Obama:

In the book, Coulter repeatedly refers to the President-elect as "B. Hussein Obama" and complains that the media "literally wanted to have sex with him."

WTF! It seems the poster child for Adolf has no steam and will search for it in any hole that she can dig something out of. Whether it makes sense or not. If you black expect to be nitpicked for every detail of who you are and that is that.

However this is ok, while Mrs. Obama is receiving scrutiny for all the things she look like, the world will be watching, and guess what they will see how much she will get right and get done. My prediction to this is that she will be the first ladies first lady. There I said it!

Underexposed:::: Josh Hartnett

How many actors do you know can play a part with such conviction that you forget it is a movie and assume that the character is no longer a character and someone that is in the room with you. Josh Hartnett is the guy that can get it done. So instead of me having you sit down to read what I have to say about this.  I am going to offer up to you something that you would like to see, which will be great it is 2009 and I do not want to be too long winded in the new year.

So guys you have to love me on this one. If you don't then you do not belong at this site. Now do you?

Will it be a new you for a new year?

It is now 2009 and you may have the curse of not keeping your new year resolutions. If this is the case realize that you are not alone. Remember that in many cases you are responsible for keep your resolution but you should not have to go at it alone. You should have people around you that reflect your aspirations and goals. People that will reinforce them by setting an example, being a person that can assist you along and friends that are not push overs which will allow you to fall back instead of move forward.

I have been...one to have many goals towards a new year. However I have had people around me that did not allow me to carry them out. Although they are not the blame for what you do with your life, they can be a catalyst to a brighter future. The lives that our friends lead tend to rub off on us causing us to evaluate who we are. This can be a negative or a positive, so we are responsible in every way in who we choose to spend time with and how much of it. Victim by osmosis and peer pressure, we all are. When it is a positive we are congratulated, and when it is a negative we are looked down upon.

You and I both know that what we are is due to a long string of influences whether we like them or not. The human animal is one for copying the one the admire. Admiration is a bridge to the next side. So keep in mind that who you allow yourself around will inevitably rub off on your characteristics and incubate itself into the life you lead.

I say all of this to say, if you wish to become a person of influence then go out there get your hands on the books and be around the people that you need to be around in order to be your repertoire.

If it is a professional then begin to find yourself in the circle of life that cultivates this. Whether it be the library or joining your local toastmaster to build your speaking abilities. This places will allow you to build relationships as well as build up your ability to make a strong argument by allow you to learn ways to structure your presentation.

It is 2009 and their is no better time to be an asset to a world that has a bleak outlook on the economy, the life of others, the state of things within our communities, and so on. This is the year that can make 2010 a year that you await with honor, and every year that follows.

So what are you waiting? Are you afraid the change will take you so far out your comfort zone you will not know what to do? If this is part of the reason, then you are on the right track. You must be out of your comfort zone in order to be of any use to yourself and those around you. Being uncomfortable means that you are now in a place to grow, learn, and become that which you must.

Are you waiting to lose weight before hitting the gym? That is a dumb idea in of itself. You must get in there and feel uncomfortable, this will allow you to work that much harder. So grab your ipods load them with your favorite jams and leave out the love song, use music that will force you to focus, a little eye of the tiger and what not.

7 Pounds is a heavy weight!

I must begin this by saying this is one Christmas that I will never forget.

Never in my life have I seen a movie in which the entire audience asked the person sitting next to them did you cry. That is something that is beyond me but was warranted in every way possible. As I am sitting there with my head tilted towards the screen all I can think of is WOW and WTF for a lack of a better expression.

7 Pounds was more surprise and less filler, and that is what a film aught to be. Since I began following will smiths career I knew he had it in him to act, but this is beyond film making this is a story that can be read into and will be talked about for years to come.

The humanity in the lead character causes you to look within yourself and begs of you to ask yourself. What have you done as of late to manifest good in other? What have you done to make sure that those around you have fruitful lives? Are you doing everything in your power to give others a chance? Now I do not recommend taking things as far as he has, that is a decision that you will make all on your own. However, I do ask that you take a deep looks into your soul and grab for that which causes you to reflect, and use what you come up with to manifest good in others.

Sitting in the movie theater on Christmas day was not my goal for the day, however, there was a gift given to me that I must re-gift. The only way I know how to do this is to share my respect of this great film. It is unlike anything you have ever seen. It will go down in history and will be a classic, and it will be dissected, and if it is not by some slim margin, I will make it my duty to guarantee this film is never forgotten, you can count my words and believe that for sure.

Will Smith production company speared not ideas in this one. I see Overbrook Entertainment go as far as to being a powerhouse filled with ideas that will make the company just a famous as its head star.

See this film and realize the possibility for our and your own humanity and then pay it forward.

You must be kidding me

These three M-Fer's, got it all wrong and I do not think that this if funny in any way. First off now that we can see in living color, blacks are not black but a shade of brown in some way or another. Two African Americans will not wear mismatched brands on the same day, no Nike mixed with Adidas.

This is the most offensive thing I have some across and I must stay clear of looking for these cats and pointing them in the direction of my fist.

They are too funny actually and I hope and pray that they wake up one day from this long slumber they are in.

Movie to reconsider ::: Deep Cover

At the beginning of my movie watching career I came across a film that captivated me in every way possible. I do not know hot to explain this with out going nuts, but I must say that forever I was locked in and ready to watch every film made by Laurence "Larry" Fishburne.

Mr. Fishburne has a swagger that no other actor at the time possessed. His abilities crushed every actor around him except for Jeff Goldblum who I think has been the most underrated actor of our era, but I am not going to get into that.

Picture your father walking across the screen with a gangster swag and all the while you know it is an act. With his application of skill, as the minutes wind down in the movie, it was hard to tell which way he was headed. Not too many actors have ever played cop the way Mr. Fish {as I like to call him}, as well.

Bill Dukes effort was seemed effortless and I vote this film into the need to be on blueray hall of fame. Matter of fact I would like to see what has become of the dectective and I would like for them to place the young kid that he saved into the film as a person it centers around or as a subplot that keeps things moving in a fast paced action drama that is non stop, with a redemptive undertone.

We all know that MR. Fish can rock with the best of them. So now what Hollywood. This is a sequel waiting to happen. What did he do with all those stack he got from the bust? Lets answer that question and make it happen. Hollywood is hot right now and Black America is waiting for the next big move. This time around make it Oscar worthy and its will be on top of mind foever.

Here are some memorable quotes from the film that sticks with you:

Bow Wow has hit the lid on this one

I have no response to this one. Entourage and Bow Wow. However I must admit that I am not mad at the girl, but this dude? I know he is 21 but I am not ready to see little man get it puppy water in flow, not like this, not for American Kids who still think of him as little like mike.

10th Aniversary of Naked Acts

It is becoming very clear to me that I am not aware of all the films that are out there. Then again back in 1996 I was a small blip on the radar. In 1996 a film by the name of Naked Acts dropped that was a smack in the face of films and blaxploitation to be exact.


I never had the pleasure to see this film and now know that I must. Over at purple zoe it is clear that there is a prime focus on digging up the goodies. So I bring this to you with care.

I must see this film. When I do you can be sure to hear from me about it again.

Since I missed it anniversary screening I must now hunt this film. I will prey on this film with all that I have until I am able to say that I've seen it and I have a true opinion of it.

Another Wu-Tang Moment

I think of all the crews in Hip Hop history that made an impact that changed the direction of a sound. The crews that come to mind are The get Fresh Crew, NWA, and The Wu-Tang Clan. Although these crews ended up disbanding for one reason or another. They always seems to stick in your mind. Lucky for us, Rap is so hot, that my favorite crew of all time has re-banded.

Taraji P. Henson +The Curious Case of Benjamin Button = Oscar Nodds?

A must see film. I had a chance to see a private screening and I must say Taraji P. Henson has the ability to snatch words off the page, turn them into her heart, and break the boundaries of movie making and reality.

From what I hear she is the talk, and I do not have a problem adding to that talk.

Brad Pitt rocks his role in this film as well. So I am sure Oscar will be knocking down the doors of these two. If not, I will boycott the award show, who tend to jump on the bandwagon of their favorites.


Taraji was recently stopped at the SAG awards and here is what she had to say about the film.

“It’s an epic, that’s all I can say. It’s an epic. It’s like a modern-day Gone with the Wind. They don’t make films like this anymore. It’s beautiful to watch. The cinematography is going to blow you away. The message, the story… I mean, in the screenings grown men had to collect themselves before they could get up and leave. It’s one of those movies that will touch you in ways you’ve never been touched in a long time in film.”

Movie to reconsider ::: Buck and the preacher(1972)

First let me admit that I have never seen let alone heard of this movie before in my life. That reason alone is why I need to stop life and let you in on something that I just stumbled on. Buck and the preacher, has the feel of a western, with the soul of a movement.

 As I write this I am watching this movie and as always I am jacked in, which explains why you are getting this live and direct(something like that.)

Instead of giving you the live play by play. I Want to get into the real life aspect of producing such a film in the early seventies. Here you have Harry Belafonte slinging guns, behind thumping a Bible. It gets no better than that. However this is 1972 and African American were making their way into the film world with works of their own, but substance was as it is today an issue. Resons being studios were not backing them as they should have been.

So stumbling onto this film from an era like the 70's, which was bombarded with blaxploitation films
and week plots was an amazing moment in time. I was under the impression that nothing else existed in the decade but tits, ass, gangsters and guns slinging, now don't forget the bad dialogue.

As this film progress, I have a new found respect for the western and Sidney Poitier. Ruby Dee grabs my heart with her lines. With the taste of slavery still on their tounges, for instance" I want to have a child with you buck, but it aint going to be here, If they wont have us in Canada, I Will go the the edge of the water." It gets no better than that. Might I add that she ripped the scene with the heart of Oscar.

Without dragging this on for miles as you know I can. I want you to go out and get you hands on this film. Add it to the collection, rent, or borrow, I do not care any which way, as long as you go out to see this film.
