50th annual Grammy Awards ::: Beyond one dimensional !
The year is wrapped up and we must begin our quest, aiming at another 50 years of great music and not so great music. With the hopes in-between we can find songs and albums, that are worthy of honorable mention and that will carry a torch to the generations that follow.
The Music of today carries a pattern of fusion, that no other generation before it was able to maintain, long enough to realize the impact of mixing styles. With country artist rocking out, rappers crooning on their own songs, and Rock stars rapping in between hardcore synthesized strums, Violinist reinventing the classical approach with a musical gumbo.
The award show this year; repurchased and brought back the elements, the show has gone down in history as providing, with the time altering performances that forged change. Alecia Keys opened us up with an Old Blue Eyes Classic, that what phenomenal and well timed, to bring together two generations. Kanye West topping his Jesus Walks stage show from his debut album, with this years Stronger and Hey mama (dedication to his mother), the pyrotechnics was nothing short of amazing, Kanye, was reminiscent of Michael Jackson, with the edge of the blue man group without the face paint. Tina Turner, passed the torch (sort of) to Beyonce, and they rocked out together, allowing a glimpse into the timeless nature of Tina Turner's music and how it still has the potency it provided in its first release. Jimmy Jam, the current Chairman of the board to the academy, surprise us by reuniting with Morris Day, his former band The time, and bringing you a piece of funk that is longed for by many. Within the performance; Rhianna was ushered in as the new princess of Pop music, which showcased her entertainer potential. With Herbie Hancock at the helm, maintain his Jazz piano prominence, with a tribute to George Gershwin. Brad paisley, engulfed our ideas of Country music, and reshaped the worlds idea of the sound, with Carrie underwood, doing just the same with her fusion of sounds. Dave Grohl, rocked harder than ever and took maintained the performance momentum. Cirque de solei, in tribute to the Beetles, granted viewers with a visual display beyond our wildest imaginations. Jerry Lee Lewis along with Little Richard, took us back to a period, of music, that was all.rock and roll. Amy Winehouse Topped it off with her performance of Rehab Via satellite.
As Far as acceptance speeches, Kanye did not surprise us, but I can tell you for the first time he was in the right for saying what he had to say. With the artist, giving his speech, and the wrap up music, playing, Kanye, decided to make it clear " It would be in good taste to stop the music right now." The music stopped and Kanye wrapped up as quickly as his emotions allowed, giving respect to his mother. In my personal opinion I did not pay attention to much of the speeches after that. Although I Would say, Amy Winehouse, was a little short of available at the time, if you know what I mean.
