Girlfriends has ended its eight year run
Girlfriends- a show that has grown from a simple introduction, into a massive tidal wave of sisterhood, a bond the very few have been able to achieve on screen. With a sweet recipe of of mixed flavors, a peek into the world of the educated, causing the busy to set aside time, to watch, in amazement.
With an eight year run, the show can be considered in the book of the longest running sitcoms on network TV, and one of the longest running African American shows to hit television since the Cosby's. However this run has been cut short, with its success and all that show allowed us to see in the world of the African American, Mari Brock Akil, has not won the battle to keep the show on the air.
The CW network released the following information:
“The prolonged strike has changed business conditions and our programming strategy for the balance of the 2007/08 season. To better focus its creative and financial resources, The CW will only resume production on shows that are in consideration for renewal next year. As a result, we will not order additional episodes of the long-running comedy Girlfriends, which planned to conclude its run at the end of this season. This was a very difficult decision for us, and was based solely on the considerable cost to license each episode in an extremely unusual business environment."
So lets bow our head to an achievement well worth the time it spent entering our lives. Read the source of this information on the EW, and tell me what you think.
