Aretha Franklin still searching for R-E-S-P-E-C-T...
My mother grew up on Aretha Franklin and every other woman I have ever known, and they would tell you how much they love her music. However I spoke to a few women as of late and I wanted to get their take on this. I needed a female perspective in order to rant this properly. In my search I have uncovered there may be more than meets the eye on this one. First keep in mind that the two come from different Genre's of music.
Aretha is a soul Singer, Tina Turner is a Rock&Roll singer with soul, two different Genre's, however being that they are black, Aretha feels the need to make it clear that she is the reiging African American female artist of her generation and of 'Black Music'. If is Soul, Aretha is 'Queen', if it is Rock, Aretha is 'Queen', you see where this is going?
The possibilty is, that it does not matter to her mind set when it comes to being the queen. It the same as going back to the queens country and saying you are queen, it would be your best interest to declare of what before you utter the word 'QUEEN'.
So Aretha is pissed at Beyonce for announcing that title with the name Tina Tuner, following behind it, at the Grammy award show Sunday. Matthew Knowles, Beyonce's, Father/Manager, had this to say, "Something this ridiculous – it's childish, it's unprofessional," he stated on tuisday in a statement, "And it's a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess."
The way I see it; two things me be teh matter, Tina got a chance at Aretha's man toy at one point, or Aretha does not allow any other women to have that title as long as you are within her color spectrum.
Just speculating, but tell me what you think about this matter, leave a comment.
